I take only a small number of map commissions each year; it is HIGHLY recommended that you book as early as possible to be sure you get a slot. Depending on the number of commissions ahead of you, turnaround time can vary from a few weeks to several months. Contact me for an estimated turnaround time for your project. Ready To Get Started? FAQ's HOW QUICKLY DO YOU COMPLETE COMMISSIONS? This depends on my current workload and the complexity of the map, and can vary from two weeks to three months or more. When we provide you with a quote for your project, we will also include a timeframe in which we will be able to complete it. For certain situations, we may be able to achieve a shorter turnaround, and are happy to discuss this possibility with you. WHEN CAN I EXPECT THE READY FILES? I will provide you with the first draft in 10-14 business days, which is the fastest turnaround compared to other companies CAN YOU PROVIDE PRINTS OF MY COMMISSIONED MAP? Currently, we do not offer printing services for maps. However, our maps will be print-quality, and upon request we can provide you with a list of printer recommendations. DO YOU OFFER A 100% REFUND? Sure, I can provide a 100% money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the first draft. WHAT MEDIUM ARE YOUR MAPS? Our maps are made digitally, but are drawn by hand. We do not use map generators or web-based mapping programs. Every map is unique, hand-illustrated, and created specially for you and your needs. ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL FEES? Yes, I take additional fees for editing more than 2 images ($5 per image), creation of charts and graphs ($15 per one), and decorative elements ($25). Also, we take an extra fee if your manuscript contains more than 10 images. WHAT IF I NEED CHANGES MADE TO A MAP AFTER IT'S FINISHED? Throughout the design process, we will be in touch with concept art and works-in-progress for you to check over and approve, so hopefully we will catch any changes that need to be made before the commission is completed. However, we know late changes can happen, so no worries! For a small fee (contingent on the size and scope of the revision), we can revise past commissions. CAN I SEE MORE EXAMPLES OF YOUR WORK? Of course! Just see above for more examples of formatting interiors I've done. DO I GET THE COPYRIGHT FOR THE MAP? Exceptional cases outstanding, as with most other types of illustration work, we retain the copyright of all our maps and confer to you upon delivery commercial rights to the piece. This means you, the client, will be able to use the piece as an illustration in your novel without royalties, or to give away free prints to your readers. We do NOT deliver original, layered PSD files of our maps except by special request, at an additional fee. - About | Author Bair Klos
About My name is Bair Klos Bair Klos is a New Adult, fantasy fiction writer from Boston. With just shy of a decade of writing experience under her belt, Bair has spent the last several years cultivating her worldbuilding and wordsmithing craft. When she's not writing, Bair enjoys spending time with friends and family, and going out to afternoon tea. Who Is ? Photo Credit to Alexandria Ngo Bair Klos was born in spring of 2001 in Boston, Massachusetts. Before she could write her ABC’s, Bair has been a storyteller. Her earliest memories of storytelling are from her childhood when she would sneak into her mother’s purse and draw in the empty pages of her mother's notebooks—which usually comprised of mermaids, dinosaurs, and beloved movie characters—before later narrating to her mother who the characters were and what the stories were about on the backside of the pages. Despite her love for storytelling, trying to get Bair to read as a young child was like pulling teeth. In elementary school she would come to discover and love the “Ologies” book series by Dugald Steer, published by Penguin Random House, and take great inspiration from Wizardology in particular. Paired with her love for spending time in the Fells Reservation—just north of Boston—the combination of the two would plant the seeds for her eventual love of worldbuilding, conlanging, and of course writing. Come middle school, encouraged by her mother to read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, her desire to become an author was fully launched and she has never looked back since. Bair is currently pursuing an associate’s degree through BHCC to enroll at Emerson College to earn a bachelor’s degree through Emerson’s Writing, Literature, and Publishing major. Inspired by authors the likes of Gene Wolfe, Ursula K. Leguin Brandon Sanderson, Sacha Black, and Tolkien, Bair even launched a writing oriented podcast—the Two Tired Writers Podcast—in August of 2020 with her fellow author friend Kimberly D. Herbstritt. With just shy of a decade of writing experience under her belt, Bair’s love for storytelling through drawing has since shifted into a love and passion for the written word. Many of her story ideas draw inspiration from her old drawings and daydreams but as of late, her focus is New Adult, fantasy fiction. Dabbling in epic fantasy, contemporary romance, and retellings of beloved classics the likes of Orpheus and Eurydice and Peter Pan, Bair spends far too much of her time worldbuilding and not enough time writing her novels. When Bair isn’t dedicating her limited spare time to writing blogs that geek out over all things writerly and bookish, she loves self-improvement, afternoon tea, spending quality time with friends and family, and throwing dinner parties. Sign-up to her newsletter to stay up to date on her debut novel “The Glass Dagger” and get exclusive updates and insights on future projects, writer and reader resources, FREE literature, writing freebies, and a more personal side of Bair.
